I've spent most of my career as a desktop support analyst, providing computer support in many environments. This is the story so far...
The Beginning
Born in 1971, I am the first of a generation to have grown up with computers. My first computer was a BBC Micro. I was fluent in BBC Basic and 6502 assembly language by the time I was 12. The most incredible computer game I played in my formative years was Elite. (The most incredible computer game in present day is Minecraft) |
The 'Traditional' Career
During the 1990s I worked in large companies in the Northwest of England. My first job was as a customer services leader for a mail-order IT company. I then became a contract worker for HM Customs & Excise, installing new PCs around the North of England. I went on to contract to Shell Oil at their computer centre in Manchester for 7 years. In the early 2000s, I took a break from computing and worked for the local Youth Offending Team also acting as an Appropriate Adult |
The Travel
In 2003 I moved to South Africa where I lived for 5 years as a self-employed computer troubleshooter. My clients were small businesses and home users. I then lived in France before joining Princess Cruises as a computer instructor. In 2009, I joined Regent Seven Seas Cruises as a computer instructor and internet lecturer. I have been lucky enough to travel the coastlines of every continent except Antarctica |
